Have you noticed in pictures that you're not smiling as broadly as you could? Maybe you're making sure to smile with your lips closed over your teeth to disguise stains, chips, or gaps. With cosmetic dentistry, you don't have to be embarrassed about your smile. Dr. Ron Solomon and Dr. Angela Burleson-Ott of Cornerstone Dental Group in Cincinnati, Ohio offer a multitude of cosmetic dental treatments and procedures, all aimed at helping you look and feel your best. Read on to learn more about this popular branch of dentistry.

What is cosmetic dentistry?

The field of dentistry has lots of specializations within it; there are doctors who focus solely on applying braces (orthodontists) or those who identify and treat gum disease (periodontists). Cosmetic dentistry is one such classification, and your Cincinnati dentists have made it a part of their regular practice. Cosmetic dentistry primarily concentrates on improving the appearance of a patient's teeth, whether it's the shape, size, color, alignment, or a combination of these. However, cosmetic dentistry procedures often tie into treatments that keep your teeth healthy; for example, dental implants look great, but their unique design - the post standing in for a natural tooth's root - also helps to ensure that the rest of your teeth stay functional and attractive as well.

Examples of cosmetic dentistry

If you have a physical flaw with one or more of your teeth, there's a cosmetic dentistry procedure to help you feel great about your smile. Whitening, for example, is the most popular cosmetic dental treatment worldwide; it's affordable and offers immediate results when you use professional-grade whitening products from your Cincinnati dentist. The color of your teeth can be brightened by up to 8 shades in just one appointment. Bonding is another quick and affordable option to repair minor flaws on your teeth, including chips, cracks, spaces, or whitening-resistant discolorations. For a full smile makeover, Dr. Solomon and Dr. Burleson-Ott offer dental implants, as we mentioned above, as well as veneers, which are thin pieces of porcelain that fit on the front of teeth that are shortened, crooked, discolored, or misshapen.

If you're in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, Dr. Ron Solomon or Dr. Angela Burleson-Ott at Cornerstone Dental Group are here to keep your teeth healthy and looking great.

Have you been thinking that it’s time to give your smile a little cosmetic spruce? If so, the New Year is the perfect time to consider the ways in which our Cincinnati family dentists, Dr. Ron Solomon and Dr. Angela Burleson-Ott, can give you the dream smile that you’ve been wanting! There are so many options that can enhance and improve your smile, here are just some of the most popular cosmetic treatments that we offer:

Dental Bonding

Do you have small chips, discolorations, or cracks in your smile? If these issues are small enough, bonding may be all you need to turn that around. During this simple and non-invasive procedure, our Cincinnati dentist will apply a tooth-colored material over these areas of the tooth to hide very minor imperfections in order to help repair teeth and improve the shape, color, and size of a tooth.

Dental Veneers

Sometimes those imperfections are just a little too much for dental bonding to handle. Fortunately, dental veneers are able to hide a variety of flaws to give you a whiter and more even smile. In fact, veneers are usually what people think of when they think of cosmetic dentistry. These ultra-thin, stain-resistant layers of porcelain are placed on the front of your teeth where they can positively alter the overall shape and color of your smile.

Teeth Whitening

If you just simply want to refresh your smile and remove yellow stains from your teeth, you’ve come to the right place! There are several ways in which you can get a brighter smile, and teeth whitening is one of the easiest and most convenient options. While some patients see the results they want with simple over-the-counter whitening methods, we know that this approach isn’t right for everyone. No matter whether you have more serious stains or you just want to see visible results quickly, there are many reasons people turn to our professional in-office teeth whitening system. In less than one hour, we can get your smile multiple shades brighter!

At the first-ever Players Weekend in August 2017, Major League Baseball players wore jerseys with their nicknames on the back. One player — Cleveland Indians shortstop, Francisco Lindor — picked the perfect moniker to express his cheerful, fun-loving nature: “Mr. Smile.” And Lindor gave fans plenty to smile about when he belted a 2-run homer into the stands while wearing his new jersey!

Lindor has explained that he believes smiling is an important part of connecting with fans and teammates alike: “I’ve never been a fan of the guy that makes a great play and then acts like he’s done it 10,000 times — smile, man! We’ve got to enjoy the game.”

We think Lindor is right: Smiling is a great way to generate good will. And it feels great too… as long as you have a smile that’s healthy, and that looks as good as you want it to. But what if you don’t? Here are some things we can do at the dental office to help you enjoy smiling again:

Routine Professional Cleanings & Exams. This is a great place to start on the road toward a healthy, beautiful smile. Even if you are conscientious about brushing and flossing at home, you won’t be able to remove all of the disease-causing dental plaque that can hide beneath the gum line, especially if it has hardened into tartar, but we can do it easily in the office. Then, after a thorough dental exam, we can identify any problems that may be affecting your ability to smile freely, such as tooth decay, gum disease, or cosmetic dental issues.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments. If your oral health is good but your smile is not as bright as you’d like it to be, we can discuss a number of cosmetic dental treatments that can help. These range from conservative procedures such as professional teeth whitening and bonding to more dramatic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.

Tooth Replacement. Many people hide their smiles because they are embarrassed by a gap from a missing tooth. That’s a shame, because there are several excellent tooth-replacement options in a variety of price ranges. These include partial and full dentures, bridgework, and dental implants. So don’t let a missing tooth stop you from being Mr. (or Ms.) Smile!

Are you ready for a smile makeover? Our Cincinnati, OH, dentists, Dr. Ron Solomon and Dr. Angela Burleson-Ott of Cornerstone Dental cosmetic dentistryGroup, discuss a few cosmetic dentistry procedures that can completely transform your smile.

Zoom! whitening

When your teeth are stained and yellow, Zoom! whitening can revitalize their appearance. The whitening treatment offers an effective way to improve the appearance of teeth dulled by age and also removes stains caused by dark pigments left behind when you consume coffee, tea, wine, cola, berries, and other foods and beverages.

Before your teeth are whitened, they're cleaned thoroughly to remove every trace of plaque and tartar. Cleaning is accomplished by coating your teeth with a hydrogen peroxide gel. Hydrogen peroxide, a natural whitener, breaks apart tiny pigments trapped in your tooth enamel. Exposing the gel to the special Zoom! light enhances the effects of the natural stain buster. After your treatment, your teeth may be as much as eight shades lighter.

Same-day CEREC crowns

Temporary crowns are completely unnecessary these days, thanks to same-day crowns created in our Cincinnati office. After your tooth is decreased in size slightly, we'll make a digital impression of your mouth, which we'll use to design your crown using the innovative CEREC CAD/CAM technology. When we're satisfied with the design, we'll send it to our in-office milling machine, which will produce your brand new resin crown in just about 30 minutes.

Dental implants

Dental implants, the most recent tooth restoration innovation, are becoming increasingly popular. The restorations feel and look like natural teeth and usually never have to be replaced. Titanium implants replace lost tooth roots and gradually bond to your jawbone. They're topped with lifelike crowns that fill the gap in your smile. In addition to single implants, denture-supported implants are also available.

Would you like to improve your smile without extensive dental work? Veneers offer the perfect solution. The wafer-thin porcelain shells are cemented to the fronts of teeth only. They're an excellent option if you want to conceal minor damage, such as chips or cracks, have a discolored tooth, or want to change the shape or length of a tooth. Do you want a movie star white smile? Because veneers are available in many shades of white, they offer a long-term whitening solution.
